“Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”—Joshua 1:6-9 (via denisecua)
Young people, get out of your comfort zone. Be willing to try. Be willing to risk and experience failure. I believe in you. I believe that God has great plans for young people.
I believe with all my heart that you have been deceived by the world because our expectations from young people are so low. What are the expectations from teenagers today? Do not get pregnant. Do not get involved in drugs. Do not smoke. Do not drink. Clean the room. Do your assignments. What kind of expectations are those? You are created for more. Young people can do great and mighty things.
If you can overcome the fear in your life and realize God is with you, what will your life be like? In every one God has given a dream. All of you have that dream. But somewhere along the line people have quenched your dream. You used to believe you can do the impossible but now you feel like you are a failure.
I want you, young people, to be a dream releaser to your parents. It is never too late to tell your parents what they can become also. Do you know why? Young people, you are crucial in the lives of your parents. You can tell each other, “Be all that God wants you to be.” Never be paralyzed by the low expectations of the society today that tell you, “You are just a teenager. You are too young.” No. I believe in you.
“We’re proud of our faith—even though I know some people don’t understand it or think we’ve gotten a little carried away in the whole religion thing. That’s okay, because I don’t think you ever have to explain or apologize for being a believer. It’s the same as surfing: you can’t know what it feels like, what it does for you, unless [you’ve really done it]. All I can say is it gives me a really strong foundation for everything I do in life. It’s like having a house built on solid rock.”—Soul Surfer, Bethany Hamilton (via denisecua)
“He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.”—Colossians 1:18-20 (The Message)
I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honour of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
- Revelation 21:22-27
Come, Spirit, come and change hearts; open our eyes that we may see what we were made for. Revive the church and add many to our number, so that the LORD Jesus can come and night can be no more!
“Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgement will be revealed.”—Romans 2:4-5 (via chaispice)
i don’t feel deserving of Your grace this morning. it’s foolish to say so, but You know my heart. the countless years of wrestling with and giving into the same sin have left me with only feelings of guilt and shame. to be honest, there are days where i have a difficult time believing that You could ever forgive everything that i have done, every thought that i’ve had, every word that i’ve said. often, i think that i’m not good enough for Your grace and mercy. in reality, this is true.
is that not what grace is? You give us that which we in no way deserve.
is that not what mercy is? You withhold from us that which we do deserve.
is this not the exact state that You long for us, breaking us to our very core only to rebuild us in You?
would You restore to the joy that stems from and is rooted solely in Your wondrously rich salvation? i plead with You, God. give me a new passion for who You are and for what You have done and for what You are doing and for what You will do.
I love my wife and my baby girl, Amelie, and if anyone would try to do something to hurt those girls, I would ferociously try to protect them. If Amelie tries to stick her fingers in an electric socket, I would be ferocious in making sure that she didn’t. If I needed to, I would yell, or slap her hand away or do anything I needed to do to make sure she didn’t get her fingers in there.
Love IS just.
If my neighbor is being unjustly accused of something by the law, and I don’t step up and seek for his justice, then I do not love my neighbor. If that woman can not feed her children, and the people around her love her, what do they do? They seek justice for her. They help her provide for her children. This is just. This is loving. They go hand in hand. Justice is about setting things to right, and love always seeks justice for those who need it.
It is for these reasons that I believe that God is ONLY loving.
“Loving” doesn’t mean weak or passive. Love is strong. Love builds what he needs to build and destroys what he needs to destroy for the sake of his beloved. Love is passion. Love is justice. Love is wrath. Love is kindness. God IS love.
Perfect love casts out fear. This is because love is better than fear. Fear gets you to obey the speed limit if you suspect that there may be police around, but love for the passengers in your car makes you drive carefully. Fear can get you to obey rules, but it cannot transform your heart. Religion that is based in fear says things like ‘well, yes God is love, but….’
You see, He’s like this man who is constantly knocking on the doors of our hearts. But we answer, “Jesus, wait—just wait a second. I am not ready yet. I am almost done. Let me just tidy things up in here before you come in.” He waits and waits but no matter how hard we try to tidy up, it does not seem to get any cleaner. And yet he still waits and waits and knocks and knocks..
Eventually, He takes out the key, the key he had all along, unlocks the door, and enters the home. Cobwebs fill the corners, paint and paper torn from the walls. Broken furniture is found all over the dust-filled wooden floors. Bits and pieces of glass are on the ground. There is little light in the room and it seems as though the light bulbs have been burnt out for some time. He looks at the corner of the room and finds a mirror, which shows a distorted image. We stand there in the middle of the room, trying to not make eye-contact, trying to hide this mess.
Yet He puts His hand on my shoulder and smiles. “Let’s see what I could do.”
He starts by taking off His sandals. He opens the windows and lets air flow in. He starts taking cobwebs down from the ceilings. He tears off the layers and layers of paper from the walls. He fixes and mends the broken furniture and puts them back in place. He picks pieces of glass off the floors. He places new light bulbs, lighting up the room. He then puts up a new mirror, which reflects a clean home.
Through all this, we stand there watching. He does all this gently and quickly yet it seems as though He is taking His time. It is His joy, His delight to continually tidy up our hearts.
Lastly, He shakes the dust off the sign which had fallen off the door. He lets it hang on the doorknob—“Welcome to My home.”
“I will give you a new heart, & I will put a new spirit in you. I will take you your stony, stubborn heart & give you a tender, responsive heart.”
I am not an escape from life. I am a way to fully embrace life. I am The Way. I am the Way to healing, the Way to forgiveness, the Way to love. I am the only Way you want to live your life. But do not expect to escape pain and hurt and sufferings. For I was the most greatly suffered and will love you every day for the rest of this life and the perfect, painless life that follows because you chose My Way now. I am proud of you because in the eyes of the Father, you are spotless. He and I see you through the only perfect filter that is Me and We will praise you, not for good works or smiles but for My sacrifice. You are praised because I took your sufferings, your punishment.
God wasn't bored in Heaven one day and decided to create man. He created man out of love. God's compacity for love was so overwhelming that He gave His love action and movement like He calls us to do, He puts man in a garden and creates him out of dirt... as if to let us all know that when your life looks like dirt, all you need is the BREATH OF GOD. Don't ever count God out, He's the best at bringing dead things to life.
“Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”—Steve Jobs (via femmerun)
